  1. To Install the "PolyTrans Model Translation" Software
  2. -----------------------------------------------------
  3.  
  4. Please refer to the "PolyTrans" manual, installation section, for a printed 
  5. version of the following instructions:
  6.  
  7. 1) Windows 95 installation:
  8.  
  9.     1) If you are running a DOS shell then execute the following steps
  10.        (please replace 'f:' with your CDROM drive letter):
  11.  
  12.         chdir f:\install\polytran\win_x86\disk1
  13.         setup.exe
  14.  
  15.     2) To execute the installer from the Windows 95 task bar, choose the 
  16.        "Run..." command from the task bar button then type the following
  17.        (please replace 'f:' with your CDROM drive letter):
  18.  
  19.         f:\install\polytran\win_x86\disk1\setup.exe
  20.  
  21. 2) Windows NT installation:
  22.  
  23.     1) If you are running a DOS shell then execute the following steps
  24.        (please replace 'f:' with your CDROM drive letter):
  25.  
  26.         chdir f:\install\polytran\win_x86\disk1
  27.         setup.exe
  28.  
  29.     2) To execute the installer from the Program Manager, choose the 
  30.        "Run..." command from the main "File" menu then type the following
  31.        (please replace 'f:' with your CDROM drive letter):
  32.  
  33.         f:\install\polytran\win_x86\disk1\setup.exe
  34.  
  35. 3) Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroup installation:
  36.  
  37.     1) PolyTrans is a true 32-bit program that can only run under the 
  38.        older 16-bit Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups operating systems 
  39.           if the 'Win32s' Microsoft system extension is first installed. 
  40.  
  41.        To install Win32s:
  42.  
  43.         1a) If you are running a DOS shell then execute the following 
  44.            steps (please replace 'f:' with your CDROM drive letter):
  45.  
  46.             chdir f:\install\win32s
  47.             setup.exe
  48.  
  49.         1b) To execute the installer from the Program Manager, choose 
  50.            the "Run..." command from the main "File" menu then type 
  51.            the following (please replace 'f:' with your CDROM drive 
  52.            letter):
  53.  
  54.             f:\install\win32s\setup.exe
  55.  
  56.             Now proceed to follow the instructions displayed by the Win32s 
  57.             installation program.
  58.  
  59.     Now to install the Windows version of PolyTrans....
  60.  
  61.     2) If you are running a DOS shell then execute the following steps
  62.        (please replace 'f:' with your CDROM drive letter):
  63.  
  64.         chdir f:\install\polytran\win_x86\disk1
  65.         setup.exe
  66.  
  67.     3) To execute the installer from the Program Manager, choose the 
  68.        "Run..." command from the main "File" menu then type the following
  69.        (please replace 'f:' with your CDROM drive letter):
  70.  
  71.         f:\install\polytran\win_x86\disk1\setup.exe
  72.  
  73. 4) Installation of the MSDOS command line version of PolyTrans
  74.  
  75. These instructions are for the manual installation of the DOS or NT/95 command
  76. line version of PolyTrans:
  77.  
  78. - If not running a MSDOS command shell already, do so now.
  79. - Change to the directory where you would like to install PolyTrans.
  80. - Type "md pt"
  81. - Type "cd pt"
  82. - If you received PolyTrans on CDROM then change to the following directory
  83.    on the CDROM:  "\install\polytran\inteldos". Now copy all of the files to
  84.    the ëptí directory you created above with the following command (which 
  85.    assumes the ëptí directory was created on Drive C in the root directory):
  86.      copy *.* c:\pt
  87. - If you received PolyTrans on diskettes then insert PolyTrans Disk # 1 into
  88.   drive A and type:
  89.       "a:pkz -e -d a:pt_dos.zip" or "a:pkz -e -d a:pt_nt.zip"
  90.   This will decompress all of the PolyTrans files into the current directory.
  91. - Now proceed to the "Entering the Product Registration ID" section to license
  92.   this software.
  93.  
  94. 5) Installation of the UNIX versions of PolyTrans from CDROM
  95.  
  96. These instructions are for the manual installation of the UNIX command line
  97. version of PolyTrans:
  98.  
  99. - If not running a command shell already, do so now.
  100. - Change to the directory where you would like to install PolyTrans.
  101. - Type "mkdir polytrans"
  102. - Type "cd polytrans"
  103. - On the CDROM drive, change to the following directory:
  104.     "\install\polytran\sgi" or "\install\polytran\sun"
  105.   Now copy all of the files to the ëpolytransí directory you created above
  106.   with the following command (which assumes the ëpolytransí directory was
  107.   created in the "usr" directory):
  108.     cp *.* \usr\polytrans
  109. - Now proceed to the "Entering the Product Registration ID" section to license
  110.   this software.
  111.  
  112. Entering the Product Registration ID for PolyTrans
  113. --------------------------------------------------
  114.  
  115. The following information only applies to the command line versions of
  116. PolyTrans. To enter the product registration ID for the graphical user
  117. interface version(s) of PolyTrans a dialog box will appear when the
  118. program first executes.
  119.  
  120. In order to run the PolyTrans program in fully operational mode a product 
  121. registration ID must be supplied to it. This ID is specified in the file 
  122. "setup.ini" on the line that begins with "setenv NG_PRODUCT_ID" (the last
  123. line of the file). 
  124.  
  125. You have to manually edit the "setup.ini" file and enter the product 
  126. registration ID number which was provided with your PolyTrans distribution
  127. (it is listed both on the front page of the PolyTrans manual, on the CDROM
  128. case/envelope and on your registration card). After entering the product ID
  129. number the text within the "setup.ini" file should appear similar to this:
  130.  
  131.     # Product registration ID. This is obtained from Okino Computer 
  132.     # Graphics once you have purchased the product. 
  133.     setenv NG_PRODUCT_ID = "D10-x86-0789-74235446"
  134.  
  135. If the product registration ID is not entered, or it is incorrect, then PolyTrans
  136. will run in demonstration mode in which every 5th polygon will be missing from
  137. the exported data set.
  138.  
  139. Running the DOS, NT-CMD, SUN & SGI Demonstration Versions
  140. ---------------------------------------------------------
  141.  
  142. If you received PolyTrans on CDROM then the CDROM will contain all current
  143. versions of the PolyTrans program in the "\install\polytran" directory,
  144. including the DOS, Windows NT/95 command line, Windows graphical interface
  145. versions, SUN and SGI versions. These are all fully working versions of the 
  146. PolyTrans program but, unless you purchased a license for a specific platform 
  147. version, they will only run in demonstration mode. To install these 
  148. demonstration versions please follow the instructions listed on the previous 
  149. pages of this manual.

  151. How can I remove Win32s? from Windows 3.1?
  152. ------------------------------------------
  153.  
  154. To remove Win32s: 
  155.  
  156. 1. Remove the following line from the [386Enh] section in the SYSTEM.INI file 
  157.  
  158. device=<WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\win32s\w32s.386 
  159.  
  160. where <WINDOWS> and <SYSTEM> are where the Windows and System directories are, respectively. 
  161.  
  162. 2. Modify the following line from the [BOOT] section in the SYSTEM.INI file 
  163.  
  164. drivers=mmsystem.dll winmm16.dll 
  165.  
  166. to the following (remove winmm16.dll) 
  167.  
  168. drivers=mmsystem.dll 
  169.  
  170. 3. Delete the following files from the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM> subdirectory or from the SYSTEM directory in network installations: 
  171.  
  172. W32SYS.DLL
  173. WIN32S16.DLL
  174. WIN32S.INI 
  175.  
  176. 4. Delete all the files in the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\WIN32S subdirectory or the <SYSTEM>\WIN32S subdirectory in network installations.
  177. Then delete subdirectory itself.

  179. 5. Restart Windows. 
  180.  
  181. NOTE: <WINDOWS> refers to the windows installation directory. On a networked Windows installation, the system directory may be located
  182. on a remote share. If you are only removing Win32s from your machine, then you do not need to remove the shared files (in <SYSTEM> and
  183. <SYSTEM>\WIN32S). Before removing these files from the network share, make sure that all users that use Win32s have removed the
  184. references to Win32s from the SYSTEM.INI file.
